How has Russia’s change from a planned economy to a more free market economy improved the Russian economy?

How has Russia’s shift from a programmed manage to buy (a authority economy) to a some-more giveaway marketplace manage to buy softened a Russian economy? To what border have a changes resulted in some-more central corruption?

Return Of the Czar – frontline documentary will answer your question. (read the interviews if you don’t want to pay to see the film) Return of the Czar would def. answer your question, it’s really interesting. It talks about how US tried to introduce "Democracy" to Russia and it was like shock therapy to people because it was virtually impossible to convert to Capitalism and Democratic republic over a week.

The business is actually very successful right now in Russia but of course it’s less regulated than it is here in (USA).

Also there is a great movie that came out Tycoon about current economic state and Oligarchs that basically rule the economy, i’m pretty sure you can get in English if you want to watch it.

Or youtube Putin’s Russia Documentary there should be some good info on economy and the transition. (it’s also on my website) ThaUnseen.com

I can tell you a little bit about my experience living in Russia. I was born in 1987, the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. I remember we had to make our own bread to survive because the prices sky rocketed. People weren’t getting paid, unemployment rose, food scarcity, drug use, alcoholism etc. The taxi cab drivers were making more money then surgeon and doctors. It’s (still is) difficult to get a job even with the most valuable degree, and there are far more educated people in Russia then in US but the the job market is lame duck. I left when I was 12 so I never really had to experience the real struggle that my parents had to deal with.

hope this helped you even a little bit.
