Can I get better fuel economy on a diesel by installing a less restrictive air intake and larger exhaust?
I have an 06 F250 with a 6.0 L motor fuel as well as do not get most fuel economy. we do not wish to put a thinly slice in it since we do not consider it wil;l assistance a fuel manage to buy as well as might blank a warranty.
A turbo-back exhaust will help with economy some. It will also lower exhaust temperatures (something important to watch on a modified diesel, even a stock diesel in my opinion). The intake will help some as well. Remember, the truck is forced induction, so it is sucking a lot more air than a naturally aspirated motor would.
A mild tune chip could help with economy as well, or an adjustable chip on a lower setting. I run an ‘04 6.0L with the Edge Juice w/ Attitude controller, The truck is always run on setting #2 ‘Tow-Mode’. My boost pressure doesn’t get radical, but I can bring the EGTs to unsafe levels on a long pull on a hot day (factory exhaust). The chip avg me 1.5mpg increase on setting #2. #1 is the economy mode but I can’t see a difference… #0 being stock. Anything above #2 and boost spikes to unsafe levels and the EGTs go through the roof pretty quick.
As for your warrenty… This is something that can be argued at the dinner table and at the dealership. The chip went on the truck 2 months after purchase because it was a wuss compared to the ‘01 Cummins with an Edge-EZ. The truck has been back to the dealership for some recall a couple years ago, the chip was unplugged and the controller removed. Ford did their thing, chip went back on and no questions were asked. Actually, we took the truck to the dealer at first because the recall had nothing to do with fueling, but they needed to plug in to the computer and asked us to unplug it before they could work on the recall.
Yes the intake and exhaust will improve your economy and bonus lower EGTs.
no go bigger on both. the more air your engine gets the more power you will have and the less fuel you will have to use and those gases have to go somewhere so get a bigger exhaust and you will have more power and save fuel.
Yes for the air intake & not always for the exhaust, although incresed horsepower in this manner usually leads to increased mpg. I would serch for additives for your oil & gas or make the conversion to vegitable oil. I am sure most resturants would love to just give you your fuel for free!

I seriously doubt it a diesel engine is a diesel engine and what you get from the factory is about it
